Psychiatry

Psychiatry is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Psychiatrists are medical doctors (M.D.s or D.O.s) who specialize in mental health, including substance use disorders. They evaluate patients to determine if their symptoms are due to physical illness, a combination of physical and mental ailments, or strictly mental issues.
